THE GREAT SUMMER (UNFILTERED)

Every year, it’s the same. You pack your suitcase, lock up the flat, and promise yourself “This summer will be THE summer.”

And before you know it, you’re neck-deep in holiday goals, group chats full of planning stress, fear of missing out, and some invisible pressure to have a picture-perfect summer.

And yes, if it’s not blessed by your Instagram feed, it almost feels like it doesn’t count. Like the algorithm knows more about your holiday than you do.

Truth is, most of us spend more time posing than relaxing—like we're auditioning for Love Island but forgot the script. If there’s no sunset boomerang clink, was it even a proper pint?

But is summer really about the perfect snap… or the imperfect moments?

🌴 THINGS THAT LOOK DREAMY ON INSTAGRAM, BUT WE BOTH KNOW THE TRUTH:

1. That “hidden cove” – was crawling with paddleboarders and screaming toddlers. You just cropped the frame.

2. The surfboard on the car roof – never touched the water. Looked good in the Airbnb car park though.

3. Poolside with a paperback – didn’t get past the blurb, did you?

4. That “candid” cocktail – you ordered it for the pic. Tasted like melted Haribo.

5. “Do it again! The splash didn’t look natural!”

6. Digital detox” – you said, before spending an hour choosing the right filter.

7. That bougie sunbed – £25 for 3 hours of mild sunburn and a seagull incident.

8. Salad lunch – conveniently cropped before the fish and chips arrived.

9. “Morning walk” – let’s be honest, you were still in last night’s clothes.

10. Wing shot from the plane – captioned ✈️💕 but your knees were in agony and the kid behind you screamed all the way from Gatwick.

11. “Boat day” – mostly queueing in a sweaty lifejacket and mild seasickness.

12. The “just-threw-this-on” beach look – took three outfit changes and one breakdown.

Funny thing is, the stuff that actually makes us happy in summer rarely ends up on a insta-story. It’s the little things – slow, a bit unglamorous, not exactly made for the ’Gram, and often... just yours, really.

🌞 BUT HERE’S WHAT REALLY MAKES A SUMMER GREAT (NO FILTER REQUIRED):

1. Falling asleep under a parasol and waking up with towel creases on your cheek.

2. Ice cream melting down your wrist as you wander the seafront after dinner.

3. Wandering barefoot around the house, curtains closed, full vampire mode to beat the heat.

4.
That first salty breeze when you step out near the coast—sticky hair, don’t care.

5.
Warm beer from the cooler… still hits the spot.

6. Cards on a wobbly picnic table, the sound of seagulls and someone’s dodgy playlist.

7. Soggy bread rolls, damp towels, and the smell of sun cream.

8. Dinner = crisps, and whatever was left in the cool bag.

9.
Clean clothes post-shower with half the beach still in your drain.

10. Hours of doing absolutely nothing… and loving it.

11. A slightly burnt nose you forget to care about.

12. Playing the same song for days and not getting sick of it.

13. A quiet moment with mates after a beach day, each in their own sandy bubble.

14. Finding a proper seaside café by accident—with formica tables and ketchup in jars.

15. Staying up talking nonsense till 3AM without checking your phone once.

If you have to choose this summer, choose the things that don’t fit in a post. Less polish, more sun cream. Fewer filters, more freckles. Fewer reels, more real.

P.S.: And while you're at it, take care of your post-sun skin the unfiltered way. Melonizer gives you that boosted bronze without the fuss. Because the best tan is the one you wear while actually enjoying your holiday—not curating it for strangers online.
