The perfect shower

There are as many showers as there are types of detonated 👉🏽👌🏽 (quick, hot, relaxing, …) and today we dissect its perfect science (the shower science, not the ñiki-ñiki science): the one that combines pleasure, health and efficiency in equal parts.

7 TIPS FOR A PERFECT SHOWER

1. HOW LONG SHOULD IT LAST? A QUICK ONE IS ALWAYS EFFICIENT.

Between 5-7 minutes, like a soft-boiled egg or a cup of ramen, is the ideal time. This is enough to clean thoroughly without drying out the hair, while saving water and energy (around 50-70 L compared to 120 L for a long shower).

2. HOT, HOT OR COLD FOR GRATING GLASS WITH NIPPLES?

We're looking for a temperature slightly above thermal neutrality, that is, warm (34-38°C). Anything hotter dries out the skin, anything colder is uncomfortable.

  • Pro-tip: Are cold showers good? Yes, for the bravest and for their benefits. But lowering the temperature for the last 30 seconds to 1 minute is more than enough (that already activates circulation and stimulates the immune system).

3. A PROPER SANDWICH: WATER – SOAP – WATER

First, we wet it well, like 30 seconds of just water. A real soak, as they say. It seems obvious, but some people skip the preliminaries and just go for it, generally in life; and then they complain about lubrication problems (we're talking about soap, of course).

After it's thoroughly moistened, an important debate arises:

  • ?Team body soap either...

  • Team soap massage between your hands and then spread with your palms/sponge/mittens over your body?

Well, it's really a matter of taste. The second one does make the soap last longer, but on the other hand, you have to make sure to change the sponge every six weeks unless you want to scrub yourself with something that looks worse than the fringes at the car wash.

4. PRODUCTS THAT FIT YOUR BODY SERRANO

You watch what you eat, you don't wear nylon underwear or buy itchy clothes… well, the same applies in the shower. What you put on your body doesn't just go down the drain, it sticks to your skin. That's why we look for quality soaps (ahem ahem), that cleanse without drying, that provide extra nourishment or active ingredients to the skin, and, ideally, that are a pleasure to apply, reapply, and smell close to your neck.

5. THE LITTLE WAKE: UP AND DOWN AND INSIDE OUT

Once you've chosen the soap that best suits your needs, where you start lathering matters. We'll work from head to toe, and from the inside out. This is simply to ensure that the water runs down and washes away the dirt, and also to make sure we don't miss any areas. The least-washed areas are usually the nape of the neck and behind the ears, elbows, knees, and soles of the feet. You should scrub and rub these areas too. The friction from the water is necessary, but not enough.

6. THE MAGIC OF DRYING

Ideally, while in the shower, first remove the water with your hands (as if your hands were windshield wipers). This will save your towel up to 60% of the work.

Furthermore, once you're out of the shower, the towel works best by absorbing like kitchen paper for spilled coffee. It's better to dab it rather than drag it.

7. THE AFTERWARDS AFFECTIONS

Even after using the right temperature water, a quality soap, and a gentle drying routine… you might still find your skin is peeling. That at certain times (like winter) or at certain moments (e.g., after your second shower of the day) you're drier than a bowl of talcum powder. For those moments, your best friend is body moisturizer. Not always, not every day… but it saves the day and softens your skin so that all the hard work you've put in at the pool, on your bike, or at the gym isn't visually ruined because you didn't spend 20 seconds on a good self-massage.

8. EXTRA TIP: HOW TO LAST LONGER

We're always referring to soap:

  • Before its release: in the bathroom drawer or cabinet, nice and dark and dry.

  • During the shower: It's best not to leave it under running water or on the ground.

  • After the shower: Make sure it's no longer in contact with water. A soap dish or dry surface is best.

  • And if it lasts less than a week... Well, someone's stealing it while you sleep, or your bathroom has a microclimate that's more humid than a taxi driver's back in the Seville summer.

And even so, you're more than ready to enjoy it to the fullest, with all the prepositions that fit in this shower. Alone or with someone.
