Resetting the router... How to turn on (and off) your responsibilities
Life is overwhelming, routine is stressing you out, chaos surrounds you on all sides… and all you want is to disconnect, escape, and put your responsibilities aside… at least for a while. You need—especially in a time of lockdowns and perimeter closures—to get away, even if you can't walk out the door, not because you don't fit, but for precaution and your mental health.

Some listen to chill-out music, others write, some take a warm shower or do transcendental meditation, connect with their chi... there are many ways, but the philosophy is the same: recharge your batteries with moments for your ego worship that are worth more than they cost. Welcome to the hygge philosophy.
Hygge: more than an activity, a life attitude.
Hygge comes from Denmark. “Hygge.” Huh? What are those, Danish figs? No, hygge is anything that makes you happy, even if only for a moment. It just so happens that the UN named Denmark the happiest country in the world in 2012. Because they practice hygge. Every day. They approach life with total hygge.
Okay… so what's that about then?
It has to do with 'treating yourself well' and indulging yourself: pampering yourself, having a good time and not denying yourself anything or punishing yourself for it:
-
The typical example for Danes is spending a winter afternoon in front of the fireplace, with a thick blanket, a warm chocolate and your woolly dog at your feet while reading a book and having relaxing background music… that is hygge for them.

-
But Come on, borrowing the philosophy of "no fireplace in your shared apartment," a chocolate donut, a nap under a blanket, and that bad movie on Antena 3 on Sundays might do the trick. That's more like our own version of hygge...
What has always been called taking a break, taking a break or a moment for yourself… but the key is to 'do it on purpose' because you want to enjoy it and without feeling bad, but quite the opposite.
Basic principles for a hygge moment that works and recharges.
So, understanding that some people like to laze around, others prefer board games with friends, others like sunbathing in a park… knowing that everyone's plans change, there are a series of principles that ensure you get the most out of that pleasant hygge time.
1. Reserve and protect that time for yourself
Say you've made plans and don't allow any more right before or right after, otherwise you'll be rushed. Write it down in your calendar if you want... but don't let even a quick trip to the bakery or a check on the lentils interrupt your Zen moment.
2. Block out the noise around you
During that time, it's best to turn off your phone, and don't let your mother or anyone else even think about turning on the vacuum cleaner. Turn off any other notifications too (from the computer, Alexa, or the coffee maker). Only listen to the sounds you choose and listen to your playlist (if you could even avoid the ads... that would be perfect).
3.Work hard for yourself

Prepare it well: a candle in the bathtub, music that makes you nod your head from side to side, your favorite food at your doorstep (making something delicious yourself is supposed to add hygge points... but we know you have very worthy and chocolatey options at the click of a button), your time choosing a bad movie... preparation is key to fully enjoying what's coming.
4. Party Mode ON
RECREAT E. Although it might sound a bit over the top, think about how comfortable you feel, how lucky you are, and immerse yourself in that feeling of pure bliss. Forget about what you have to do next or all the unresolved issues waiting for you at work because in that moment there's only one protagonist, and that's you, savoring your moment of self-indulgence.
5. Loop repeat mode
Master Yoda mode happens when hygge is a part of your life and happens daily. But that's okay, and you can take it slowly if you accumulate more stress than the Kardashians' hairdresser. At the very least, negotiate (with yourself and those around you) a weekly time to start feeling at peace with yourself and others. With hygge, the longer and more frequent the repetitions, the more pleasurable (unlike burpees).
