Cosmetic advertising or… words that are worthless (part I)

Unless you're a super-knowledgeable guru on the subject... I'm sure they sometimes mess you up. That is why we dismantle, in simple terms, the false headlines that are used to sell you cosmetics. So that they don't fool you and you choose with your head and heart ❤.

🎵 "I invent more than a thousand words […] I try not to make them say anything […] nothing means anything." 🎶 The Pirates: promises that are worthless

When they say...

Toxic free

You think: these guys are using 'clean' ingredients, safe for me and the environment.

But what it really means is: NOTHING.

The group does not go around using 'dirty' or harmful ingredients. They are prohibited by law and you end up in jail however you use them.

  • There are ingredients that in high concentration are dangerous. Called…. EVERYTHING IN THIS LIFE. With more than 7 liters of water a day you get poisoned or with 10 tablespoons of salt... you die. Parabens and sulfates (always indicated in cosmetics as 'toxic'), above the recommended amount, are also screwed. But you don't have to go crazy because, like everything, to the fair and legal extent, they are effective and safe decks.

  • 'Toxic' is also often associated with 'produced in a laboratory'. There is nothing more toxic (and natural) than the venom of a cobra snake. And what do you want me to tell you... it also seems silly to us to deny all the scientific advances of society in pursuit of an empty flag...

  • Anyone who sells you that theirs is 'toxic free' is a hater, troll and thief... period. 😂

Without preservatives

You think: how cool that, like yogurt, it's healthier without preservatives, right?

But what it really means is: there is no protection against fungi and bacteria.

  • If it is put on the label of something like solid shampoo where there is no water, or on a cream that comes in a container in which no air enters... well, a priori there shouldn't be much of a problem.

  • If not, what you are going to find is a PM fungal infestation. over time. And with products that don't last even a week before you have to throw them away (well, just like with yogurt...).

  • Preservatives in cosmetics prevent the appearance of fungi and bacteria and, therefore, prolong the life in which you can use them. Parabens (which receive a lot of hate) are a type of preservative that, in the right measure, are one of those that cause the least allergies and are most effective and safe.

Dermatologically tested

You think: Wow! A dermatologist has tested it in his laboratory! Then it must be good...

But what it really means is: the product was given to a few people (in plan 3 also counts) and a dermatologist has read the formula, gave it his approval Well, no one patted her while that was happening.

This is not like monopoly and here there are no rules about how many people you have to test, under what conditions, which results are good or which are not. Record, for example, if the results of the supposed tests say things like '98% of people felt their skin improve'. When they talk to you about sensations and visions... red flag... that means they are NOT telling you measurable data.

Hypoallergenic

You think: this isn't going to give me any allergies, no way, I have skin like a baby's bottom.

But what it really means is: there are as many allergies as there are in this world... so, although very small, there is always a chance that something will give you a reaction.

Cruelty free

You think: ohhh what monkeys that don't test their products on animals.

But what it really means is: they follow the law.

In Europe, ALL companies that make creams have been prohibited from testing on animals since 2013 and in China it seems that (finally) since 2021 as well. Not because we put the boats full of bunnies are we better or worse... we all have to respect the law.

And enough of the indirect trolling for today. 😅 In the end this is about not being a Taliban of blindly empty headlines or having others' rules imposed on you; but that you choose freely and consciously what is cool to you.

We like to talk to you (in this order):

  1. Of efficacy and safety of the ingredients. That is, of things that work and do not bother anyone's situation.

  2. Of biocompatibility; that is, things that your skin understands and absorbs.

  3. Of sensoriality because, let's not fool ourselves, it's always cool when things taste good.

  4. To act with common sense: respecting the laws, minimizing all our environmental impact, being transparent in our processes and sources... and improving day by day, without stress.

We leave for part 2 of the post the rest of the headlines that you want us to "destroy", such as a little bit of green washing.
