Yes, we admit it... we have been sleeping a little too much in the cave and only now, post-hangover from horseback riding and powder puffs, are we setting ourselves up for the new year's resolutions 🙈 We are what they say, a walking example of Goblin. 

Goblin Mode –word of the year 2022 and… vital mood for 2023?

According to the Oxford Dictionary the word of the year 2022 and that came to compile the global sentiment was ‘Goblin Mode’. According to them, it refers to “lazy, careless or greedy” behavior. Typically in a way that rejects social norms or expectations.”

The story that the media made up was something like:

• In 2020 with the pandemic, the group dedicated themselves to abusing tracksuits, showering less than usual and normalizing behaviors such as binging on Netflix while scrolling through Tinder or eating a family bag of chips in one sitting... because Yeah.
• When we started going out in 2021 and 2022, the TikToks returned of refrigerators full of perfectly organized organic vegetables and influencers with pastel lives who at 5 am are doing yoga in the middle of an Avatar-type landscape.
• The 'Goblin mode' then raises the 'f*ck you' to those 'perfect' lives. The protagonist of the Wednesday Adams series is a bit of a bummer but without so much filter or pop adolescence dramas.                                          

Goblin Mode ON - #hijoputismo for the LOLs

It turns out that the Oxford Dictionary in 2022 decided that Internet users themselves would vote for the most important word of the year. You could vote for 'metaverse', 'hashtag', 'co-working', ... but of course, the internet worked its magic and because of the laughter 'Goblin MODE' took 93% of the votes.

#Real that by grace, not because the group thought about whether or not he used the word in his daily contexts like he goes into goblin mode when he comes down to eat his girlfriend's potorro' .

And the thing is that goblins... always, are some #fuckers... for the laughs. That is its true essence.

Throughout European folklore, goblins were those bad-ass mythological creatures that caused domestic problems: they unpaired your socks, they cut your mayonnaise, they blew out your light bulbs... and they got mad at you while they hid after doing it. 

In more recent times, the goblin, once again stands out in the territory of gamers to describe a 'way' of playing: the one in which you proactively display any behavior for which you would be socially canceled or for which you would have ended up burned at the stake centuries ago: 

• Put a SIM in a room and remove the door or put it in the pool and remove the ladder and stay to observe…
• Go in Grand Theft Auto behind grannies with a bat... 
• Go after the weakest (and youngest) rival in Counter Strike with a knife... 
• That you care more about bitching at Mario Kart rivals and pushing them off the track than about winning...

2023 The year of the… “Hobbit”?

A long time ago a troubadour said: I'm no longer a Gremlin, I'm no longer a badass, I'm no longer looking for trouble... 

If 2022 gave voice to the feeling of identifying with weak, imperfect and angry little beings... for 2023 we want to keep the good of that, but without the bad stuff.   

Goblin has had its function as a “shelter” term: as an oasis and common home for all of us who have ever wanted to be the worst version of ourselves. The perfect term that captured that feeling of wanting to loosen the leash and tight pressure during the collective pandemic trauma. But after the tantrum, we are left with a superpower: that of the catharsis of indulgence and authenticity. That of getting rid of the public mask once and for all.   

Therefore, our goal for 2023 is to upgrade Goblin… To hobbit. Neither 'aesthetic', nor immaculate, nor perfect... but somewhat less bastards, more self-indulgent and with a belly full of self-love and good intentions.  

You are a hobbit if one day you decide to have breakfast twice and then go back to bed. If you spend a happy Sunday in your cave, without socks or any social interaction. If you find pleasure in having homemade food prepared in Tupperware for a whole week... or a winter.

Hobbits are also about shelter, caves and drinking warm things. Maybe, like the Goblins, they go a day without showering or go down to the supermarket in their pajamas for a loaf of bread... but they're not bad. His only purpose in life is to want to be healthy enough... to be able to punish himself from time to time (and here punishment is not a negative word... it is the type of punishment that Bad Bunny or Rauw Alejandro tells you about in their ballads)  

2023, welcome year of the Hobbit
